While fairly uncomplicated, this narrative table-setting serves as an effective foundation for the adventure to come, as Astro visits various unique and exciting planets across several solar systems. However, Astro Bot elevates itself from its two predecessors, proving once and for all that PlayStation’s relatively new platforming series deserves to be mentioned among the greats of the genre. Since release, Astro Bot has received a number of additions, including speedrunning levels and a seasonal Winter Wonder update. Astro Bot has today received a free update, bringing new levels and a boost on PS5 Pro. Arriving September 6, 2024, Astro Bot is a direct sequel to Astro’s Playroom and looks to bring all its colorful platforming and more to a full-fledged game. “No chance,” Doucet said when asked if Astro Bot could come to PSVR2.

Knocking a Rescued Bot out of a Bot Wall will unlock the Wall Buster trophy in Astro Bot. At the Crash Site, you can call on your Rescued Bots to help unlock new areas or find new Bots and Puzzle Pieces. Sometimes the Rescued Bots will stack on top of each other to transform into a Bot Wall that you can walk up. Press down on the D-Pad to emote while standing in front of Crash Bandicoot. Give Astro Bot a chance to complete a full dance with Crash Bandicoot to collect the Let’s Twist Again trophy. If you give Kratos Bot a friendly punch at your Crash Site, he’ll use his axe to freeze you into an ice cube.

Astro Bot Dlc Arrives Today As First Of 5 New Expansions Coming To The Playstation Platformer

“It’s designed for a different medium. It would be a different game.” Though the explanation makes sense, this likely won’t be welcome news to purchasers of Sony’s headset who are already frustrated over a lack of big games. Astro Bot is only confirmed for PS5 so far but so were a hoard of other PlayStation exclusives now available on PC. Sony has made a point of expanding its player base and sales by bringing franchises such as The Last of Us, God of War, Spider-Man, and more to the platform.

In the game’s defense, this is more of a missed opportunity than a flaw. If Astro’s Playroom is the appetizer, then Astro Bot is the main meal that gamers deserve. Astro Bot feels like Team Asobi’s most significant moment in the spotlight. The video game studio entered the scene with the PlayStation VR tech demo, The PlayRoom, and quickly made an unforgettable impression. Their mascot character, Astro Bot, turned out to be such a big hit that they developed an entire game just for him on the PSVR.

Astro Bot eventually catches up to and defeats the alien, but is killed in the process. The Bots, with the CPU Kid’s help, repair and revive Astro, and appear in the background of the final planet in the story, Credits Clash. Bots return under their current name in Astro Bot Rescue Mission, where they serve as the crew of their captain, Astro Bot, similarly to Robots Rescue. In this game, they traveled peacefully with Astro in the Astro Ship through space, until the Alien appears and attacks the ship, stealing a headset and scattering the crew across five worlds. Throughout the game, Astro Bot progresses through 25 levels to rescue his crew and fix their ship. Eventually, HM88 reaches and defeats the Alien, giving the crew a peaceful ending.

Team Asobi’s platformer won numerous Game of the Year awards, including at 2024’s The Game Awards and the 2025 BAFTA Awards. Team up with iconic PlayStation heroes to save the galaxy and experience the game’s immersive world through the DualSense® wireless controller. Not just one of the best games this year, but one of the best playstation titles. Amazing family game as well that shows off all of the PS5 abilities. Find release dates and scores for every major upcoming and recent video game release for all platforms, updated several times per week.

If I asked what the best first party Playstation game is, what would you answer? Many folks would turn towards Sony Santa Monica’s, God of War (2018) or Naughty Dog’s, The Last of Us Part 2. If you answer anything other than Astro Bot, on paper, you would be wrong. At the time of writing this, Astro Bot is sitting at a score of 94 on review cite Metacritic and a 95 on Opencritic. Not only is this the highest scoring Playstation game across both sites ever, but it also statistically catapults its way onto the podium for best platformer.

We also cranked up the number of baddies too with over 70 new types, including massive bosses at the end of each galaxy. Special mention to the deadly cobra queen Lady Venomara who appears in the trailer, waiting for you in her golden lair. Defeating each boss will uncover a wonderful secret but we don’t want to spoil that, so our lips are sealed😊. And for the brave ones of you craving even more challenge, the game comes packed with die-and-retry levels to test your reflexes. Team Asobi has a special treat for Astro Bot players today, as a new update is available for download now, and this adds new levels and bots for free. Every stage in Astro Bot provides its own challenges, forcing players to think outside the box or make use of unique power-ups.

The stunning visuals, great sound design, interesting story, and amazing gameplay round out a near perfect release of a game. All in all, Astro Bot is definitely one of 2024’s best games, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it were considered to be the year’s best. If there were anything to criticize about the game, it may just be the game’s difficulty and its exclusivity. While the former may be alleviated with its already announced free DLC challenge levels and speedrun mode, the latter may be something that might not be addressed.

Astro Bot reaches towards perfection as it somehow flies close to the sun, with no fear of melting wings. It’s the type of game you would typically have no choice but turn to Nintendo for. A welcome to the PlayStation family, that normally pushes out more mature content. But don’t get it twisted; this game is an amazing experience for casual and hardcore gamers alike. Level design walks an invisible tightrope between fun and challenge, accommodating both groups.

This is joined by a PlayStation 5 Pro patch, which allows the best resolution while running at 60 frames per second. It really feels like the developers thought of everything, and thanks to their efforts, Astro Bot is pure joy in video game form. I went into it with high expectations thanks to Astro Bot Rescue Mission and Astro’s Playroom, and it not only met my expectations, but completely exceeded them. It’s the best 3D platformer since Super Mario Odyssey hit the scene in 2017 and will be remembered as an all-time classic of the genre.

Team up with iconic PlayStation heroes to save the galaxy and experience the game’s immersive world through the DualSense wireless controller. As we embark on this new year, we are pleased to announce the release of fresh content for Astro Bot, starting today. Some of you might have caught a glimpse of an unreleased level during the PlayStation XP Tournament Final held in London on January 18. That very level, along with four additional ones, will soon be available as part of the new Vicious Void Galaxy expansion. And now, four years later, Sony released a full sequel simply titled “Astro Bot” — and it just won the Game Award for Game of the Year.

The crew mourns Astro and sad credits begin to roll, but are interrupted by a broken Astro falling back onto the mothership. Several Bots from the crew find replacement parts and help the mothership’s repair systems rebuild their captain, who springs back to life. The crew celebrates with a revived Astro, who departs once more on his Dual Speeder before the credits start to roll again.

Each level comes with a brand-new Special Bot to rescue and, once that’s done, can be replayed in Time Attack mode with online rankings. To access these, you will need to have completed the main game. It’s a thrilling adventure that takes you on a journey through different planets, filled with exciting challenges and unique abilities. It even pays homage to some of PlayStation’s most beloved characters, bringing back a sense of nostalgia and joy for both new and seasoned players. I won’t spoil what characters appear here, but know that it isn’t just your average Kratos and Aloy cameos.
